Go Above and Beyond Customer Expectations

I came across this interesting article showing examples of excellent customer service from some of the companies you may already know. I am sure we all have experienced this type of customer service in our daily lives. Usually, it is easy to find this with small mom-and-pop businesses that are close to their customers and know them by names. We wrote one such example in my personal life not too long ago here.
We have come across some more well-known companies that strive to provide the best customer service every day. Below we have listed some of them along with examples of why they are famous for their customer service.

  • Zappos .com – This online shoe retailer gives freedom to their phone representatives to do whatever it takes to satisfy their customers. At one occasion the rep sent the shoes for free when the customer complained about not receiving the right shoes that he had ordered. On May 23 it mistakenly advertised the items at unbelievable low price; but still honored all sales even though it meant loss of $1.6 million. Amazon bought this company not too long ago for a cool $928 Million.
  • Southwest Airlines – During the flight the air hostess starts singing on public speaker or doles out candies and other goodies to the passengers. Not to mention they are the only airline that doesn’t charge for check-in baggage.
  • Ritz Carlton – They know the preferences of their loyal customers right down to the pillow color and prepare the room accordingly. Their concierge service is renowned for satisfying the most challenging requests from their customers on a short notice.
  • Nordstrom – The employees will go out of their way to find the perfect fit for the customers. Besides, can’t you just feel the superior customer service as soon as you enter their store?
  • USAA – This insurance and banking company; which caters to military families; deploys state of the art technology to make it as easy as possible for military personnel to interact with them. The latest example – the customers can deposit the check just by taking a picture with phone and sending it via email to them from wherever they are. No physical check necessary!!

How about you? What other companies have you come across that provide such an excellent customer service? How does your business handles this?
