How to Secure the Business Location without Ruining its Appearance

Security Camera
Whether you own a large corporation or a small new business, it’s very important to keep your assets as safe and secure as possible. Unfortunately the best methods to do this usually involve huge expenses, highly technical security and large brick walls, which can take a lot away from your company’s friendly appearance.

Depending on the nature of your business and where it is located there may already be some security measures in place. If there aren’t or you are looking to strengthen existing capabilities then the following safety measures will be a real help without damaging its image.

CCTV

CCTV will not prevent break-ins or damage to your business’s property but it will help in investigations after such an event and in recovering assets. It will also act as a kind of scarecrow, hopefully warning off potential criminals in fear they may be identified, even if just fake camera are installed.

Legally you must display signs stating the operator’s name, contact number and purpose of the CCTV (e.g. prevent theft). To get the best out of it ensure all lenses are clean, time and dates are correct, each camera is facing target areas with a good view for head and shoulder shots and keep all recorded material for at least one month afterwards.

Alarms and Lighting

Install alarm systems which generate a police response for added security in the case of a security breach. This can only be done through alarm companies registered with the NSI or SSAIB. An alarm will not affect the appearance of your workplace either.

Security lighting is a cost-effective way to make it appear as if there is someone on the premises all the time. Ensure they don’t interfere with any CCTV cameras and put lights on a timer for a simple safety measure that doesn’t affect the property’s appearance.

Fencing

Erecting a fence around your company’s property provides an extra defensive barrier but it can also create an off-putting and hidden image. For some businesses their property being seen is vital, so using an almost see-through fence such as those found at Paramesh Deco, could prove useful. This provides the ability to still view the business in a visually pleasing manner with the added security of a fence. There’s no aggressive appearance but still enough to warn off potential intruders.

Online

Keeping safe online is essential these days and never more so than for your business. A lot more theft happens over the internet so make sure you and your colleagues are aware of safe behaviour regarding passwords, accounts and online activity with your company. Ensure everything is properly protected and regularly make checks to avoid losing out in the future.
