Great smiles close deals in Business

Each culture determines its own rules on which social circumstances the smile is justified. However, a smile, throughout the world, is mostly perceived as an expression of joy and satisfaction arising from the influence of positive thoughts and feelings.  International proverbs confirm that fact. Many nations talk about the smile as a universal manifestation of happiness and the purification of the entire organism. The Irishmen say that laughter is a “soul music,” the Chinese believe that you should “use your smile to change the world and don’t let the world to change your smile” and the Japanese are convinced that “instead of worrying, a strong man wears a smile.” Smile is the sign of character, the state of spirit, and adaptation ability to the environment, of each individual. It signifies a person’s essential need for other human beings and an effort to achieve and keep contact with them.

According to psychologists, the benefits of a great, pleasant smile are enormous: for the one who smiles it is believed to be optimistic, vital, and to spread the positive energy, so is more popular in the society and achieves certain kind of supremacy compared to others who do not smile. The perfect smile is balanced, proportionate, and well-suited to a particular person. Days, when people sought for an unnaturally white Hollywood smile, are passed. Now the ideal smile is one that is clean, healthy, and natural. Natural teeth have complex surface anatomy, texture, color variation, transparency, and other imperfections. Everything is in details, so these imperfections are playing a crucial role to get a smile we want, or we can say to gain an “imperfectly” perfect smile. It means that a more careful and conservative approach that involves restoring and strengthening teeth structure or straightening teeth with fixed oral appliances must be a first-choice therapy. On the other hand, if these measures cannot be implemented for any reason or bad oral hygiene takes a toll, aesthetic dentistry possesses limitless possibilities to improve the presence of teeth and outlook of a smile.

The basis of interpersonal and business relationships is communication! Communication is not related solely to words (verbal communication), but also to the position and movement of the body – body language (non-verbal communication). Need to use hands, head or facial muscles while we speak (to illustrate anger, satisfaction or impatience) is so great that people do it even when they are not visible to a person they talk to – for example, during a telephone conversation. Likewise, when writing SMS or chats, tweeting, and other forms of written communication on social networks, we use various emoticons, emojis, etc. That is a reliable indicator that it is harder to convey a message without using non-verbal communication elements. We live in a society where the first impression of somebody is essential. It’s good to have a friendly smile on the face when we start an interaction because then people have the idea that they are talking to a cordial person. A beautiful smile gives warmth. Every child will say that his/her mom looks better when she laughs than when she is serious! Research shows that people who have a beautiful smile leave the impression that they are more intelligent, more educated, and more successful than people who have bad teeth and an unattractive smile. Smiling is also powerful when used in business. In connecting with people and building good relationships, it is as equally important as the way of handling. Many people think if they want to act like real professionals or business people that they have to be serious at all times. It’s a mistake! Smile, (charming) inclination or gesture, makes a man, among other things, persuasive communicator. Smile is a free remedy against stress and depression and to relieve the nervous. Psychologists claim that when you make yourself smile, even when you are in a bad or stressful mood, you immediately raise the threshold of a positive mindset. They assume that our ancestors have developed neuronal circuits that support the smile, because, during evolution, it proved to be useful to wear a “mask” that conceals fear, insecure, and anger.

Small imperfections can make your smile unique but still beautiful. It is, therefore, crucial to take care of the health and appearance of your teeth to continue laughing and sharing your charm. Prevention of caries and periodontal diseases implies correct and regular tooth brushing and rinsing of the oral cavity, with regular visits to the dentist. Because calculus and possible caries disease can be treated only by dental professionals, implementations of prophylactic measures like polishing with prophy paste and the local application of fluorides are the first line of defense against the potential damage of tooth structure. Proper and adequate use of fluoride preparations, such as fluoride varnish, can reduce initial enamel damage (caries lesion), make tooth structure more resistant and is also recommended in the treatment of hypersensitive teeth.   Since there is a growing need of having a bright smile and aligned teeth, patients are looking forward to the improvement of orthodontic abnormalities. The progression of braces came simultaneously with the development of materials and dental technology. There are several types of dental braces, from the traditional metal ones to almost invisible ones (lingual) and to the set of plastic trays which you wear a few hours daily. In all other cases that are harmful to the harmony of your smile (missing teeth, gum disease or skeletal abnormality) a multidisciplinary therapeutical approach is necessary to receive an acceptable and desired outcome of the therapy. It means that one or more dental specialist must be involved in the treatment because it is more than an aesthetic problem; it is about retrieving a proper function of the whole masticatory system.

Bottom line, a positive attitude on the job interview or during a closing deal, ensures that you look confident and full of energy and ideas. To all questions, within the limits of the consciousness, try to answer in a positive context, without using negatives. Give a great advantage to smile and emotions (moderate, of course). It is advisable to behave according to the circumstances and to look professional, but it doesn’t mean that you should be stiff and without a smile. People who smile are carrying positive energy in themselves, which, consequently, present them in a more positive light. So prepare yourself, put your best suit, make your hair, armed with the knowledge and desire to succeed and be ready to conquer the world around you…and yes, do not forget to put the smile on your face, because everything seems easier with it.
